We are a registered charity, serving the communities of South Yorkshire and beyond. We provide free and subsidised trips, either as day trips or residential experiences, on our purpose built barges, the Ethel and the Pearl. These trips are provided for the benefit of community groups and organisations, for both young and old, and for people of all abilities and needs. The barges are operated by our volunteer skippers and crew, who have undertaken nationally accredited training, including safeguarding and first aid.
The barges have lifts, enabling access to all areas of the boats for wheelchair users, or those with mobility difficulties. There are fully accessible toilets and shower room, and a well equipped kitchen on each boat. We have considerable experience of groups with very diverse needs – from groups of young people with Autistic Spectrum conditions, to groups of elderly people with stroke, dementia or mobility issues.
The Trust’s volunteers have all received the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service for ‘Outstanding support for disadvantaged people’.
We hope to be able to offer you or your group a special day out on board Ethel or Pearl.
The barges are also available for private hire, and provide a unique experience for clubs, societies, family events and celebrations.
Please browse our website, and get in touch if you feel we may be able to help meet the needs of your group, or if you require further information.
We look forward to welcoming you aboard!
